Overview of raw materials used in the pharmaceutical industry including APIs, excipients, and packaging materials.

Raw Material for Pharmaceutical Industry
The pharmaceutical company faces a lot of constraints and has great specialties. Pharma organizations need intense precision and care in every step ranging from gathering the raw elements to getting the finished product ready for supply.
Generally, Pharmaceutical Raw Materials can be classified into three categories:
- Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs)
- Inactive Ingredients or Excipients
- Packaging Raw Materials
Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs)
API is one of the most fundamental components of pharma drugs which is pharmaceutically active and is responsible for the drug action. Accuracy and Precision with the raw sources are two most necessary elements for making API. The largest API producers are in Asia, in India and China particularly.
Excipients
Excipients also known as inactive ingredients or drug carriers. Pharma raw materials used as excipients consist of solvents and carriers. Excipients provide bulkiness and stability in the drug formulation, along with facilitating absorption and preventing denaturation of drugs.
Packaging Raw Materials
Raw materials used for packaging in the pharmaceutical industry consist of plastics, polymer, glass, aluminum foil, paper and more. Advancement in drug delivery technologies is initiating the use of innovative packaging in pharmaceutical sector.
